From the landscape architect:

Located in Goldfield’s district of Maldon, Victoria, this is a miner’s cottage / contemporary farmhouse renovation project.

The landscape design pays homage to the heritage of cottage gardens but with a more contemporary approach to complement the architectural style of the renovation.

The project was designed in collaboration with Nadia Gill Landscape Architect and Cullen Architects.

Working with what was originally a miner’s cottage, c. 1864, the extensive renovation project was inspired by a modern farmhouse aesthetic together with the canopies of the existing mature peppercorn and Eucalypt trees that complemented the combination of traditional meets contemporary design.

The brief was to create a landscape that paid homage to the original heritage of the cottage, transitioning to a clean, modern aesthetic with various enjoyable outdoor spaces where the family could relax and entertain.

The original cottage form and reinvented landscape. Design:

Elegant and understated, the planting and materials palette for this landscape were designed with layers of greenery, foliage contrast, natural stone texture, timber and steel creating a striking outlook through the vine-clad pergola.

Various focal points within the garden frame the space, including a Mediterranean-inspired pool, drystone walling, split stone paving, black steel pergola, timber batten screens, modern pots, an outdoor fire place, organic bluestone steppers and an original rustic timber bench.
