For the materials, the fitted joinery and furniture was to be bit funky and colourful.Storage was very important to them given it is a one bedroom terrace house. We started with the ground floor, kitchen, staircase and lounge area. The space had the bones – we just needed to create an illusion of space.Taking out the solid staircase and putting in new vertical stair posts of varying thickness and position allowed for the overall room to appear deeper.Storage was created under the stairs while new kitchen joinery, new flooring and cladding the existing stairs with mitred wood treads was a big part of the ground floor design detail. We moved to the upstairs where the bathroom was updated with horizontal marble linear tiles to create visual length. We introduced the latest tapware and a curved custom designed vanity that makes room for walk through space. The bedroom was re-designed with a slated custom bedhead and bedsides, and the wardrobe was re fitted to create more organised storage.A desk was also included for these times of home office needs. The roof space was high, so an attic conversion was commissioned to create more storage space. Moving to the outside, the back courtyard was re-designed with new landscaped plant areas and a casual seating area. Some natural timber and mirrors were added and a retractable awning which meant the balcony could be used even when the weather is not so kind. The front of the terraced house is on a small street which is a public walkway, so we created a planter box platform and designed awnings that are bright and colourful and match the vibe of the area. The awnings were designed from scratch and built from aluminium and powder coated so they would last for many years.
