About this project: To freshen and modernise the existing kitchen space. The previous kitchen was very dark and heavy because of the use of dark materials like timber cabinetry and the granite benchtops.

The previous kitchen was an L shape with a high upstand which cut off the city views. The clients wanted to open this up as much as possible and we were able to achieve this by using a glass support under a lower, attached dining table. This in turn provided us with a long stretch of cabinetry and workable benchtop accentuating the length of this wall.

As there is only one external window it was important to have ample LED lighting for the work surfaces and the display wall.

HANDLESS: this was a really big requirements of the clients and we were able to achieve this by installing all drawers, pull-outs, wall units and appliances with Motor Drive. Therefore there is not one handle in the kitchen.

Extraction was a challenge as the Apartment’s switch board was directly above the cooktop. We opted for a pop-up Miele recirculation downdraft and a landscape induction hob.

The timber veneered wall; this is a hidden secret until you are in the kitchen area. The clients wanted this to be a completely floating elevation. Our challenge here was that this wall is an inter-tenancy wall. So we constructed a false wall to which the veneer was attached.

The wall units on the timber panelling have lighting within, below and above to provide a nice display area. With the television on this wall we continued the same veneer on the sliding doors so these can be completely closed so as not to distract television watchers.

The lines of this kitchen were really important to our clients, so we spent many-a-meeting getting these exactly right.
