This move enhances and expedites the experience of getting oneself ready for the day, says Gavin Hestelow, the homeowner and in-house architect at Giorgi, the firm that designed the home.“Comprised of distinct dry and wet zones, the bathroom takes inspiration from Japanese rituals of bathing,” says Hestelow.Appealingly symmetrical, the dressing area is centred around a circular, freestanding bath. This curvaceous element to an extent divides the room, as well as providing a sculptural focus. “Overall, the master ensuite/dressing space is designed to exude simplicity and focuses on the expression of materials,” says Hestelow. “The timber laminate walls are only punctuated by two simple, in-line black archways – to the bedroom at one end and the shower at the other.”In fact, the black archway to the rear draws you into a modest vestibule before actually entering the generous shower room and toilet beyond. This set-up not only maintains the total privacy required in the combined bathroom/dressing room, it also keeps any moisture from the shower zone away from the dressing area. The entire bathroom is crowned by beautiful scalloped ceilings complete with skylights. The latter add to the ensuite’s sense of volume and, importantly, bathe the space in natural light.“Overall, the ceiling’s subtle curves contrast square forms in the bathroom, softening key features and creating a calming environment. Warm wood laminate surfaces conceal wardrobe facilities in this combined bathroom and walk-in wardrobe. The brushed and sandblasted Bluestone floor tiles are pleasing underfoot and anchor the light cabinetry and natural stone vanity benchtops.“These natural materials exude a sense of luxury akin to a pampering day spa,” says the architect. “As part of this, the durable wood-look laminate panels conceal all robing needs while ensuring everything is readily to hand.” Credit list Architect and owner Gavin Hestelow, Giorgi Benchtops and bath pourer plinth Elias Silver stone slab, honed, by Bernini Basins Custom, solid surface Bath pourer Milli Pure Prog Bath Mix System Toilet suite Roca Dama-N Towel rails Scala, black Awards Trends International Design Awards (TIDA) Bathrooms – Winner Home designer Giorgi Cabinetry Cleaf Light Rovere laminate; Melamine, black Bath Shinto Matte White Stone Bath Shower fittings Milli Pure Shower Head; Milli Pure Prog Shower Mixer Toilet roll holder Milli Pure Toilet Roll Holder MB Tiles Bluestone, brushed and sandblasted, by Odins Ceramics Designed by: Gavin Hestelow, Giorgi Story by: Charles Moxham Photography by: D-MAX Photography 23 Aug, 2020 Bathroom Australia TIDA Bathrooms Trendsideas Home kitchen bathroom commercial design Latest Post Deep in the jungle 22 Dec, 2024 Mixing it up 22 Dec, 2024 The Living Pā 15 Dec, 2024 We know the Specialists Related Book More Books > Bathrooms Here's all the inspiration, ideas and information you need to get started.
