Respected kitchen and interior designer Leonie Hamill loves working with hand-crafted veneered finishes, stone and porcelain on her elegant, individualistic award-winning kitchens
Professional designer Leonie Hamill, director of Cube Dentro, has been prominent in the kitchen and crafted cabinetry industry for over 20 years.
Hamill’s strong design sense emerged early on in life. At a young age she became a qualified fashion designer and that led her forward into interior design and then into designing kitchens.
“I have been involved with architects and designers my whole life. Design is just something I am passionate about – it’s what I love to do.”
She draws design inspiration from everywhere – life and living. It could be a restaurant or park – she says that there are all sorts of environments to draw ideas and getting inspiration from.
The designer also travels to Italy once a year to take in Milan and other design shows.
This wide assimilation of ideas pays off with her clients appreciating the unexpected ideas or the latest techniques that she brings to a project.
Her talent for kitchen and interior design is also reflected by a string of national and international awards over the years, including winning 2019 TIDA New Zealand Designer Kitchens.
Working directly with clients is the Certified Kitchen Designer’s favourite part of the design process.
“I like to be involved from the beginning and get immersed in the project – so it's not just the layout and design, it will go all the way through to colours, the finishings, the furniture – the overall project.”
“At Cube Dentro we are a contemporary design company – we like strong lineal lines and very clean design, so while we also work in traditional homes our skill set is really on the contemporary side of design,” says Hamill.
“In terms of materials, we do a lot of veneer work. Our cabinetmakers are highly skilled craftsmen and working with textured veneer means we can design with complete range of colour palettes.
“We also use a lot of porcelain products for our benchtops – such as Dekton and Neolith – as well as a lot of natural stone work.”
