Charm is in the details
Textured finger tiles, gunmetal tap finishes and reeded shower glass are just some detail flourishes that give this family bathroom a dramatic presence

The brief
Our owners are an older couple in their '70s with adult children and grandchildren.
They have been planning for years to build their dream home on a piece of land on the waterfront at Scott’s Point.
They engaged an architect who designed their new home and we were engaged to completely design all the interior spaces and finishes, including this family bathroom.
The brief was to design a bathroom for their grandchildren and other guests to use when they came to stay – it is not the powder room, as that is downstairs.

The response
The bathroom is located upstairs amongst the guest bedrooms and television room.
It is well sized and has good natural lighting.
We used a dark textured tile on the long wall behind the bath, allowing the shape of the bath to pop put with the contrast in colour and texture.
The black textured tile is contrasted with large format soft grey tiles on the remaining walls and the floor.
Texture has also been added through the reeded shower glass, trimmed with a powder coated gunmetal to add definition.
A gunmetal finish was chosen for the tapware, including the feature floor-mounted bath filler for the freestanding tub.
A generous amount of storage is provided in the double vanity and tall storage cupboard.
Guests have a luxurious showering experience with a good sized walk in shower with a separate rain shower head and slide shower.
A tiled niche is there for storing bottles and soap.
