Calming and connected
This coastal garden celebrates privacy, calm, and filtered light, along with soft tones & textures – the private space connects naturally with the home's interior living spaces
Designed by Renee Reiter, Invidia Landscapes
From the landscape designer:
Tucked away along Victoria’s Bass Coast, this courtyard garden is designed to be a quiet, private retreat that naturally connects with the interior living spaces.
The goal was to create a calming outdoor area that feels like a natural extension of the home, drawing in views, light, and a sense of calm from the surrounding landscape.
A custom designed screen is positioned adjacent to the alfresco area, offering privacy from neighbouring properties while creating a backdrop for the breakfast bar and daybed area.
This helps define the space without closing it off, allowing filtered views and soft shadows to become part of the experience.
Planting is key to the feel of this garden.
A mix of evergreen hedges and deciduous trees have been selected to continue to maintain privacy, while also offering seasonal variation, and structure throughout the year.
Underneath, layers of greenery and foliage offer texture and movement, softening the constructed elements.
A light colour palette made up of soft tones and natural textures is used to reflect the relaxed coastal setting, without falling into typical coastal garden clichés.
The result is a space that feels grounded, inviting, and ideally suited to its environment.
Points of focus
Open timber pergola designed to connect sitting & cooking area to the home while providing privacy with the ‘Axon’ cladded screen.
Areas were carefully considered within the small spaces to create a functional garden for entertaining & relaxing.
The aesthetic was important to provide as much greenery through to the inside of the home and create a seamless connection through to the garden.
