There are at least two ways to tell if a kitchen features custom cabinetry.
One is that it will be designed to the specific needs of the owner, with individual cabinetry element responses and another is that the lines, corners, feature woodworking will all come together in a crisp, exact manner that spells one thing – highly experienced craftsmanship.
This was very much the case in this kitchen designed by architect Kate Rogan of architectural and interior design practice
Rogan Nash Architects.
This is the home of the architect, her husband and two children.
The idea was to create a family home which was comfortable and suitable to family life, whilst being modern and design-driven.
While the exterior is clad in black metal – hence the name Blackbird – the interior design is elegant, comfortable, and welcoming. And the kitchen itself is very in tune with this while fulfilling all the specific needs of a young family.
The precision designed and fitted kitchen include an island bench, with seating for four or five. The rear wall cabinetry – in dark grey Melteca melamine, colour, Bullet – houses tall storage, the fridge, and an underbench oven and hob.
This area is served by a stainless steel benchtop.
With the precision fit of all cabinets and appliance inserts, not a centimetre of space is wasted and the design is crisp and appealing.
The splashback is a frosted window, which glows with natural light. To the right of the kitchen is a door which leads to the scullery which includes a room-length bench (for appliances) with handy storage cubbies above and below.
