Overview

The St Heliers site was purchased in 2016 with the build beginning 2021 with completion June 2023.

The large elevated site was selected in order to design and build six large apartments all with amazing panoramic views of Rangitoto and the expansive Waitemata Harbour. 

Penthouse – brief

Design a well appointed luxurious resort style apartment using natural, timeless materials of stone, timber, steel, alabaster and marble – to suit a discerning buyer.

Design

The penthouse encompasses the entire top level, complemented on three sides with floor to ceiling glass including a large covered loggia designed for entertaining.

The expansive living space runs the full width of the northern face of the complex, enjoying views over the Waitemata Harbour with Rangitoto front and centre.

The sense of arrival begins on stepping out of the lift into the private entry foyer with walls papered in textured moody black, natural toned stone floors and crisp white shutters.

On entry, the transition to wide board oak flooring allows for continuity through the generous hallway into the open plan living, dining and kitchen.

A mix of lacquered oak and black stained cabinetry is matched with a large island incorporating warm toned marble benchtops.

Rangitoto reflected in the black mirrored splashback creates the perfect backdrop surface while cooking.

Having the kitchen and scullery positioned to the rear allowed for several options for the placement of the furniture layout.

At the north eastern end is a lovely area for morning coffee with the opposite end incorporating seating around a large gas fire for relaxed entertaining.

Designating the centre of the open plan space for the dining zone enabled three distinct yet flexible zones. 

Design solution

The large space to the rear of the living room adjacent to the kitchen was designed as a separate media room, enclosed in solid walls and door.

To continue with the light airy atmosphere I redesigned the existing walls with contemporary aluminium framed glazed walls to create uninterrupted transparency from every angle out to the view beyond.

The balance of the apartment is well appointed with a luxurious master bedroom, beautiful bathroom with walk in shower and toilet discreetly hidden behind a wall, freestanding bath, twin vanity including his and hers dressing rooms.

Two additional guest bedrooms with ensuites, powder room and separate laundry complete this exceptional property.
