The client’s brief was to complete the detailed design, selection of finishes, fixtures and fittings for their new contemporary Australian farmhouse. This included coordination of landscape and pool design, detailed joinery and custom furniture design.

The aim throughout the home – which nestles against the landscape of a sun-drenched valley on the Central Coast – was to achieve spaces that felt relaxed, unpretentious and uncluttered, resulting in a timeless elegance that has gentle warmth.

Leading the way

Pathways of recycled sleepers and cobblestones lead to terraces of sandstone on this home and also connect to the hardwood verandahs with long gentle stairs.

Expansive welcome

Inside the generous planked front doors, this home's wide hallway leads to a mudroom and office space with feature hardwood barn doors and recycled brick walls adding to the layers of texture and a mix of natural materials.

The home's dining table was custom designed while the Willow chairs are by Globe West.

Relaxation central

The aim throughout the home was to achieve spaces that felt relaxed and unpretentious without clutter, resulting in a timeless elegance that has gentle warmth. Furniture from Coco Republic; Indigo Love and Uttermost were chosen for the living space.

Keeping it real

The kitchen is the heart of this home and has strong visual connections to the dining, living, alfresco and pool areas. The materials reflect the homeowner's yearning for an authentic space. Recycled timber elements and hints of vintage textures such as the iron pendant lights add authenticity to its simple layout.

A place for everything – even homework

A children’s study zone is incorporated at the end of the kitchen and beyond the recycled barn doors hides a scullery and butler’s pantry. Device free dinner time is made easier with an integrated charging drawer in the scullery, which also hides a second dishwasher and sink. The kitchen's splashback is finished in handmade tiles – another key texture in the kitchen's makeup.

A soft touch

This home's connection to the environment continues throughout the bedroom zones where high ceilings and soft textures play with the natural light. In the master suite bedroom, feature bedside lights by Anchor Ceramics are draped over custom made brackets, and beautiful timber and leather toggles feature on the Heatherly Design Bedhead.

The rustic with the smooth

The master bathroom is completed with the soft silk texture of an elegant quartz bath and basin set against against recycled hardwood joinery. Low windows connect the private spaces to the landscape.

Natural extension

Natural materials connect this home to its wider farmland setting at every turn. The outdoor dining area with its solid, simple timber table and backdrop of stone cladding and rustic barn door are a case in point.
