From the architects:

The brief from the owners was for the kitchen to serve as an entertainment hub for the living area, be a stand-out feature and still provide the functional requirements of a working kitchen.

The island, being the centrepiece of the space, needed to be a dominant element within the room. 

The dramatic angles of the island are an iteration of the exterior of the house, which itself is derived from the surrounding dune scape.

The angles of the island face were thoughtfully curated so that the island still allows comfortable seating.

The crown cut American white oak cabinetry behind the island was designed to provide a seamless contrast – becoming a backdrop to the island while not over complicating the space. 

A black porcelain splashback and scullery door to match ties the whole space together. 

Black linear Halliday & Baillie handles have been used with Blum Aventos and Blumotion Tip-On hardware to hide the integrated appliances and create a seamless look.

Floor to ceiling cabinetry has been designed to maximise storage and conceal a bar unit that has the same material palette as the kitchen.

A Hafele pocket door system has been used to slide cabinet doors back into the cabinetry and to allow the bar to be open and become a key part of the entertaining space.

Opposite the bar, an adjacent wine fridge under the island bench reinforces the entertainment capability of this kitchen.

The scullery functions as a secondary kitchen, allowing food to be prepped and dishes to be stored when guests are present.

With the scullery closed off and absorbed into the background, the kitchen is left with clean elegant lines and the island again stands out in the room.
