Finding the right appliances for your new kitchen can be a project in itself. With the popularity of open-plan design, appearance is clearly one important aspect to consider. However, other factors, such as the way you cook, should also be taken into account.

Harvey Norman has recently developed a new concept within its stores. Each of the 17 stores throughout New Zealand now includes a kitchen section displaying appliances from a wide selection of brands. To make it easier to visualise them in your home, most are built into cabinetry in a variety of finishes and styles.

General manager David Ackery says the new concept provides a shop within a shop where experienced staff can help homeowners to choose the right appliance for their needs. The options include a wide range of European, American and Australian appliances.

"Our staff all have a good knowledge of the different appliances in our stores. To keep up to date with the latest developments we also run weekly in-house training programmes. And, to make it even easier for our customers, in many stores we have facilities for demonstrating the various appliances in action," he says.

"So that our customers can rely on our advice, we also feel it is important to keep up with the trends in cooking and with changes in the way architects and designers are approaching kitchen design," Ackery says.

Brands represented include Bosch, De Longhi, Electrolux, Simpson, Westinghouse, Aske¶, GE, Ariston and Miele.
