A project inspired by the classic alpine village, Pounamu Apartments cluster around a five-star hotel with commanding views of the mountains beyond
Although tranquil lake and mountain views may come as standard with every Pounamu Apartment, tranquil neighbours are unfortunately impossible to guarantee.
To help ensure residents can enjoy the vista in peace and quiet, Southern Pine Products sourced a noise reduction system to dampen sound transference between upper- and lower-level apartments. This was a particular concern given the use of wooden flooring throughout the units.
The company chose Cloudwalk, an acoustical underlay system manufactured in Germany. Once installed, it easily reduced noise levels to exceed the IIC 50 minimum requirement of section G6 of the New Zealand Building Code.
The flooring itself had to correlate with the apartments' furnishings and augment the overall rustic feel of the complex. Koia Architects settled on Haro Beech Steamed Country, longstrip hardwood flooring with a Permadur gloss finish.
"Haro flooring was selected to provide dimensional stability with the underfloor heating system as well as its aesthetic qualities," says architect Tony Koia.
Cloudwalk underlay and Haro hardwood flooring are made from wood harvested from sustainably managed forests. The latter is engineered to be warp-resistant, and is available from Southern Pine Products' dealers in a variety of styles and species. These include beech, oak, merbau, African oak and various other species. All are available in either longstrip (three strip) and plank one strip.
