It may be the most private room in the house, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy an attractive view from your bathroom. Even opening up your bathroom to the outdoors is possible, as this project illustrates.

Designed by The Elegant Bathroom Design Company, the new bathroom replaces a small, dark bathroom and separate toilet. Designer Claire MacLean says the owner wanted to take advantage of the private bush setting and sea views.

"A stand-alone, two-person tub was another requirement," she says. "This was positioned in front of large, sliding windows to maximise the bush outlook. With the windows open, it is like bathing outdoors. The position of the bath also provides a view through the house to the sea out the other side."

MacLean says a restrained use of colour was used to keep the focus on the outlook. Four shades of grey feature on the tub, floor and walls.

"The client wanted a vanity that was a little out of the ordinary, hence the shaped basin and a glass mosaic splashback that is almost the full height of the room. The cantilevered unit contributes to the spacious look."
