Air of refinement

Thoughtful and varied surfaces combine to give this kitchen visual presence – while its advanced functionality is downplayed to the eye

Designed by Harrison Design

From the designers:

The homeowners were looking for a legitimate semi-professional cook’s kitchen – the final result is a fully equipped chef’s kitchen that creatively conceals everything a serious home chef could need through the use of deft design elements.

The design team knew that function would be the central aspect of the space; however, they did not want this to dictate the design of the kitchen.

Being a renovation, the design team had to work within the home's existing footprint.

The homeowners insisted on a completely bespoke design, so the team had to think outside of the box.

For example, the large wall of windows lets in a lot of natural light, but it limited storage space – to address this, the wall to the right of the windows was utilised to maximise space with floor-to-ceiling storage.

The wall of windows floods the kitchen with natural light while providing a serene outdoor backdrop.

A Lutron shade hidden above provides light and privacy control when needed.

The cabinetry features a surprising mix of materials including metal, oak, and birdseye maple, all topped with Fusion Blue quartzite and Cyprum metallic plumbing by Dornbracht.

An expansive sycamore wood wall hides the Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer and a juice bar and houses a Miele plumbed combi-steam oven, microwave, and warming drawer.

The rangehood is above the cooking zone which incorporates a Wolf grill, induction cooktop, electric oven, and counter steamer.

A Wolf vacuum seal drawer and a pullout water spray accessory for the steam create the perfect setup for a passionate sous vide cook.

The counter-to-ceiling splashback was designed utilising gold wallpaper topped with mesh fabric that the designer had laminated in glass, creating a glimmering statement piece.

The large oak island provides an organic centrepiece.

Also packed with features, the island is equipped with refrigerator draws and a butcher block with easy access for compost, as well as a pop-up electrical outlet and a concealed laptop-desk pullout.

A hidden television located in the counter completes the bespoke space.
