A simple, natural palette gives this ensuite a refined yet relaxed feel
This master suite is all open and connected, while marble-look porcelain surfaces give the ensuite a sense of enveloping luxury
Aesthetics are all important but it can be one specific functional requirement that leads a design.
A key part of this master suite design was to achieve separated spaces for the toilet and the shower – both completely sealed and with good ventilation. This allowed the main area of the ensuite to be open to the bedroom and the walk-in wardrobe, says architect Daniel Marshall.
“In response, both shower and toilet are set behind the tub and entered from different sides."
“The wardrobe was integrated with the ensuite, to make the most efficient use of space. Plus, the sculptural vanity runs the full length of the room. This also allowed us to integrate a make-up area with seating as an intermediary element between the wardrobe and ensuite.”
In terms of aesthetics, Marshall wanted the master suite to appear to be carved out of a single piece of stone. Hence, the walls and floors of the bathroom are finished in a large-format porcelain tile with the look of veined marble.
A smaller mosaic tile was used for accents in the niche behind the bath and behind the vanity.
“The wardrobe’s rusticated oak veneer helps soften the look of the room and at the same time emphasises the luxurious nature of the ensuite.”
