Blinds in one form or another have been used for privacy ever since man began living in dwellings. The one down side has been that whilst people couldn't look in, you also couldn't look out.

New lightweight materials, such as Mermet's M Fabric, are changing the face of window treatments and at the same time revolutionising the market, says Dennis Matthews, New Zealand sales manager for Window Treatments NZ Ltd.

"Used in the manufacture of our roller blinds, M Fabric offers all the benefits of traditional materials, as well as having a high tensile strength for better durability, and being flame resistant. Another popular aspect is the fabric's translucency, which allows you to enjoy the view even when the blind is closed."

Consisting of a PVC outer coating over a fibreglass core, these intelligent fabrics as they are known in the industry set a new standard for solar protection, blocking out anywhere from 74% to 100% of UV rays. They have also been proven to reduce energy consumption by up to 33%.

For those people looking for a more traditional window covering, Window Treatments NZ Ltd's range of cedar shutters also have proven benefits being easily adjustable for privacy, protection from sunlight and to allow air flow.

As with all of the company's products, their cedar shutters are made to order and are extremely durable. Available in three blade sizes 60mm flat blade, 68mm aerofoil and 90mm aerofoil the classic look of shutters means they can be used in any setting. The shutters come in either a treated or untreated finish and are suitable for interior or exterior applications.
