Designed by Candice Van Dyk,  Mooi Design

From the designers:

The Stanley kitchen was designed by Candice Van Dyk for herself and her family – a designer’s own kitchen.

However, with the kitchen  intended to double as a ‘showhome’ for clients, the designer wanted to illustrate design features that were a little different from the ordinary to allow clients to think outside the box when undergoing their own designs.

Rangehood a leading feature

The rangehood was the first feature of the kitchen.

"We took a 12mm Estatuario Neolith around the rangehood and created a frame around the cooking area," says Van Dyk.

This creates a modern, seamless look while also being practical for cleaning.

Flowing joinery hides a secret

Timber veneer wraps the entrance wall into the kitchen, flowing through to the bar and hidden scullery door to create unity between the joinery and living space.

The scullery also acts as a laundry, so the ability to close the hidden scullery door (make of solid oak) not only reduces noise from this area but creates a major design feature contributing to the overall look.

Modern yet sympathetic to the character home

The kitchen incorporates all the modern amenities a traditional 1940s home would not have – double ovens, integrated dishwasher, 900mm cook top and a feature bar.

The owner's design brief to herself was light, modern yet sympathetic to the 1940s character home.

The contrast between old and new is strong throughout the home but touches of brass, estatuario and light timbers provide a scheme which complements the timeless nature of the home.

The dining furniture is also very much in
