Kayanoya Shop by Kengo Kuma, Tokyo

The Kayanoya Shop is a reproduction of a traditional Kuhara Shoyu warehouse, a soy sauce manufacturer with a history stretching back 120 years. With a design by Kengo Kuma and Associates, the store references the wooden barrels used for traditional shoyu-making (a type of soy sauce). These float above the products on display, which are arranged in special wooden trays modeled on Koji Buta – traditionally used to make malt rice when preparing shoyu.
