Kitchen Design Ideas by Poggenpohl

Modern Black and White Kitchen Back in 1987, this stylish German home was a model for modern living. It reflected the style of the time, with an open stairwell, terracotta floors, and natural wood in the ceiling and staircase area. For more than 20 years it proved an ideal family home. But in 2009 the owners, now living as ‘empty nesters’, felt it was time to make a change. They decided to make the kitchen the centre of home life, whether for a quiet breakfast for two or a family dinner party. The choice of kitchen manufacturer was never in question. The owners’ company is a supplier to Poggenpohl, so both husband and wife had first-hand experience of the company’s demanding quality standards. The only question was which design to choose. A visit to Herford, the home of Poggenpohl, settled it. system captured the imagination of both husband and wife. Its use of a minimalist, modular, rectangular frame without adornment seemed ideal for the new, open-plan layout, especially as the new kitchen had to accommodate the differing ceiling heights caused by removing dividing walls. Working with their Poggenpohl designer, they chose a classic combination of satin-finish white and high-gloss black to create a modern but welcoming ambience. The result is a harmonious connection between the existing wooden furniture and the glass fronts of the new kitchen. The elegant modularity of the Porsche Design Kitchen’s low cabinets, where the hob, oven and coffee machine are housed, connects the kitchen and living areas.
