Good design and fine millwork come together in this traditional cherrywood kitchen

Double act

Teamwork is a vital ingredient for any project, and it's never more essential than in the design and manufacture of a new kitchen – as this project illustrates.

Chicago interior architect Jane Kelly of Seomra Design Services worked with Hensen Fine Cabinetry of Sun Prairie, WI, to produce a kitchen that would fulfil the owners' requirements.

"The clients entertain a lot for both business and pleasure, so the kitchen needed to have some formal elements," says Kelly. "But it also had to be warm and inviting for informal family gatherings."

Kelly says the Wolf range with faux stone hood was positioned so it could be seen through a large, double-sided fireplace. The main sink, which is beneath a large window, is another focal point.

The custom handcrafted cherrywood cabinets from Hensen Fine Cabinetry feature heavy applied moldings, which reinforce the home's traditional style. The cabinetry includes a large island, which functions as a food preparation area, snack bar and informal dining space.

To complement the elegant look of the interior, the wall unit includes mirrored glass display cabinets.

Kelly says the kitchen typifies the attention to detail that characterizes all Seomra Design Services' projects.

"With more than 12 years in the business, we have acquired a vast database and can source many unique products for our clients."

Hensen Fine Cabinetry is a family-owned and operated business. Working with a network of dealers, independent designers and contractors, the company handcrafts all its kitchens using only the highest-quality woods, finishes, components and hardware.
