About the project: 

This site is located in an urban residential area surrounded by natural green space near the sea. A large part of this area comprises plots with significant slopes.

The observation of the site and immediate surroundings highlighted that most of the houses built or being built in the area followed the same premise: place it at the top of plot – filling the land where the buildings are located, through the widest possible cross-volume, leaving the rest of the site as a garden with difficult use and difficult relationship with the living spaces. 

This seemed to result in a disproportionately large number of houses that don't integrate with the environment.

Based on the consideration described above, the premise arose that the house should become part of the landscape while achieving proper integration into the surrounding environment. 

And if possible, that the different areas that make up the project could have a relationship or visual connection with the terrain. 

So instead of embankments, the levels were 'smoothed' freeing up space that could then participate with a role equivalent to that of the building. We also decided not to put the house on top of the site. 

Instead, we proposed a longitudinal volume where the last level of the building is located one floor below the surrounding buildings. Thus, the existing trees were preserved on the site.

The house articulates its spatial structure through a vertical core and main body that acts as a container of activities in a coordinated and participatory way. Visit architect website: www.guillemcarrera.com
