Grand expression from Kitchen Trends volume 2502
Symmetry of placement and balanced finishes help this kitchen work well despite its expansive layout. Clive Christian traditional cabinetry was selected but some ornate detailing was omitted, to soften the kitchen's formality.
The main island is set opposite the range and framing columns. Chopping blocks on both ends cater to an owner who loves cooking. They also sidestep the problem of finding a single slab of marble to cover the island's 10ft by 5ft area.
An array of appliances is set close to each work area, most of them integrated behind cabinetry facades. There is a separate under-counter refrigerator to serve each area, for example. The marble floor is inset with red marble diamonds to match the countertops.
The kitchen's spacious walk-in butler's pantry is designed to be on view from the greater space, without directly intruding on the overall symmetry of the room.
The secondary island is well placed to serve the dining table and adjacent outdoor area. Used as a drinks and serving area, the island has an icemaker and under-counter refrigerator integrated into the cabinetry. The understated formality of the cabinetry complements the room's other furniture pieces, while maintaining a classic-look ambiance.
