A classic villa has many features that may appeal to the modern homeowner polished timber floors, high ceilings and bay windows, to name a few. However, one aspect that older homes often lack is a second bathroom, an all-important feature for busy families.

That was the problem the owners of this villa presented to the designers at Yellowfox. The challenge was to create a floor plan that would enable an ensuite to be added to their master bedroom. This was achieved using an adjacent bathroom space, which was relocated to the rear of the villa, says designer Claire Bruford.

"The new ensuite is accessed from the master bedroom through a central cavity slider, flanked by two new wardrobes. The rest of the space was turned into a laundry, accessed from the kitchen."

A T-shaped wall in the ensuite enables the toilet to be hidden on one side, while a large walk-in shower is built into the other wall. Yellowfox specified products from the Robertson portfolio for both bathrooms. For the ensuite, the design team chose a Rialto double basin vanity in wenge wood.

"Robertson supplies high-end brands, such as Elementi, Zucchetti and Ideal Standard. Together with Tile Warehouse tiles, and colours from Resene, we were able to create spa-like environments in both bathrooms," says the designer.

The design for the main bathroom is based around a contemporary version of the Cape Cod style, exemplified by a white Cape vanity unit from Robertson. The vanity contrasts with the dark mosaic tiles, sourced from Tile Warehouse, and the dark-stained wooden floorboards.

Yellowfox was able to create these rich designs through its association with a host of companies.
