Personal best from Interior Living Trends volume 2218
Sometimes an interior requires a central piece to draw the room together. Maybe you can picture the style you want, even the colour, but sourcing it can prove a much harder task than seeing it in your mind's eye. One way to turn your idea into an attractive, functioning reality is to approach a furniture company whose speciality is starting their designs from scratch every time.
In business for over 15 years, Neo Design has the solid design experience and manufacturing capabilities to create a broad array of custom furniture and cabinetry, says co-director Wayne Church.
"Whether a client has a half-formed notion or a detailed plan, we can take their idea and turn it into a practical, well-finished piece of furniture," he says. "Custom work is Neo Design's speciality, but is complemented by products we supply to upmarket retailers throughout New Zealand."
The company utilises solid timber, veneers, laminates, steel and glass to create a variety of contemporary and traditional pieces. Neo Design has attracted several industry design accolades, winning the New Zealand Furniture Show's title for Best Dining Furniture Fashion 2006 with its Link Dining Table, Chairs and Sideboard.
A lot of Neo Design's furniture and cabinetry involves combining traditional techniques, such as mortise and tenon joints, with modern materials and finishes.
Fellow director of Neo Design Paul Burgess says word-of-mouth recommendations are invaluable to the company, and that it is on the strength of these that they often receive specialist commissions – ranging from an individual piece of furniture through to fit-outs for entire houses.
