Expressly Italian from New Home Trends volume 2117
It's a country renowned for its style and design expertise – but modern Italy is not just about fast cars, furniture and fashion. It's also a country that produces beautiful tiles and wood flooring.
This design expertise was recognised by the owners of this home who wanted the interior to reflect an international look. A continuity between the living spaces and outdoor living areas was also essential, says Paolo Cozzolino of Spazio Casa.
"The flooring and paving are the elements that determine this flow," he says.
Spazio Casa, a specialist in Italian tile and wood flooring, supplied a variety of co-ordinated products to fulfil this need.
The formal living area, shown on these pages, features Plank 140 wood flooring by Listone Giordano in the Natif Michelangelo finish and colour Biancospino.
"This is a very quiet, refined flooring, well suited to contemporary interiors," says Cozzolino. "Here, it also makes a dramatic backdrop to the black leather furniture, and is a perfect complement to the Casal Grande Padana Botticino tiles that feature in the rest of the house and outdoor areas."
Cozzolino says 60cm x 60cm tiles were chosen here – their large size enhancing the sense of space.
As Spazio Casa tiles come in a range of finishes, the same tiles feature around the pool, but here they have a non-slip finish.
"Being able to use the same products inside and out creates a perfect indoor-outdoor flow," says Cozzolino.
Bathrooms feature tiles from the Sichenia Pave Evolution range. Square 40cm x 40cm tiles were used on the floor, while the walls feature 30cm x 60cm tiles. To provide a visual break, a band of Metal Listello by Casal Grande Padana features around the perimeter of the room.
The bathrooms are further enhanced by Italian fixtures and fittings, also from Spazio Casa. The company's bathroom collection includes Whitestone hand basins, Vitruvit toilets and tapware from Zazzari and Bonomi.
You can check out the Spazio Casa range of flooring and bathroom products at showrooms in Auckland, Takapuna, Kerikeri and Queenstown.
