Cool, calm and collected
Cool, calm and collected from Kitchen Trends volume 2108
Calm and tranquil interiors are a welcome antidote to the busy, stressful lives many people lead today. And not surprisingly, color palettes and materials are reflecting this trend.
The latest Corian® solid surfaces take their cue from nature, introducing subtle colors that blend seamlessly with the most prevalent materials used in homes today.
Earth, Sagebrush and Tumbleweed are the newest additions to the Corian Private Collection. Ginguei Ebnesajjad, DuPont™ Surfaces director of product styling and development, says the new, natural colors are refined, but also down to earth, with subtle veining and random patterning.
"Because our lives are so saturated with color – from computer screens and colorful billboards to street signs and advertisements - we yearn for the silence of soothing neutrals. The Corian Private Collection provides relief to our over-stimulated visual world, and helps to ground us emotionally."
These new colors follow the recent release of the Corian concrete-inspired collection. Ebnesajjad says concrete's unpretentious and calming aesthetic is now widely acknowledged in home design.
"The use of concrete has evolved from being a structural material to a decorative surfacing material that lends itself to the soft contemporary style of today," she says.
"The deep coppers, natural bronzes and pale aqua hues of this collection provide smooth, opaque surfaces with subtle, random particles incorporated throughout. These create an understated look."
Marketing manager Maureen McGeehan says industry professionals are consulted to ensure the aesthetics don't just reflect trends, but are providing enduring, versatile surfaces.
The new releases offer all the other benefits of Corian solid surfaces, including the ability to customize long, seamless countertops with integrated sinks. This makes it easy to achieve a variety contemporary architectural looks. Customizing Corian also enables designers and homeowners to express their creativity.
"Corian has other practical benefits," says McGeehan. "It is non porous and does not promote the growth of mold, mildew or bacteria. It is also renewable – stains and scratches can be sanded out to keep the surface looking like new for years to come."
Corian is not just limited to kitchens. It can be used in numerous applications throughout the home.

Nature steps up to the mark in the latest releases in the Corian® Private Collection. This Corian Sagebrush countertop illustrates the refined, natural aesthetics of the new collection, which reflects the move towards calm, neutral interiors.
Tumbleweed is another color in the series.
As with all Corian solid surfaces, this collection combines good looks with practicality. The surfaces are durable and easy to maintain.
This Corian Tumbleweed countertop complements the washed look of the cabinets.
Inspired by concrete, as the name suggests, Corian Concrete (foreground) is teamed with Corian Whisper in this contemporary kitchen. Both colors are from the new Corian concrete-inspired collection.
Corian surfaces can be shaped to any profile. Sinks can also be integrated into the surface.
This kitchen features Corian Sagebrush.
This kitchen features a combination of colors. The countertop and circular table top are Corian Fawn; the island is Corian Dune.
Corian Fawn and Corian Dune complement the dark wood cabinetry of the island in this kitchen.
