Keeping it green from New Home Trends volume 2605
The tranquil green landscape of the Ferndale subdivision is a unique selling point. So too is the large size of the properties, which allows homeowners to develop extensive gardens.
Keeping the gardens green in an area prone to summer droughts and water shortages is no problem, however. The Ferndale and David Reid show homes feature the WaterLillee® greywater garden irrigation system from Watersmart®.
Steven Roberts of Watersmart says the system meets the Kapiti Coast District Council's regulations that require all new housing developments to incorporate greywater recycling.
"The WaterLillee system reduces household water use by up to 50%," Roberts says. "It also allows you to maintain a lush, green garden all year round, regardless of conditions."
WaterLillee automatically diverts used water from the bath, shower and laundry, and recycles it directly to the garden. The water is not stored, as it is either used immediately for irrigation or it goes into the sewer as normal. The greywater is dispersed 100mm below ground.

To minimise water usage and to keep gardens green all year round, both the Ferndale and David Reid show homes feature the WaterLillee® irrigation system from Watersmart®.
WaterLillee uses a pump and below-ground irrigation pods to create a large flow system that prevents blockages.
The WaterLillee greywater recycling system is controlled by a touch-button keypad in the bathroom or laundry.
