Ocean breeze from Home & Apartment Trends volume 2601

Bathrooms in condominiums can sometimes take a back seat to the living areas and bedrooms when it comes to maximising a great view.
This master suite is in a condominium on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Architect Sarah Robinson says all the rooms in the apartment offered breathtaking views, except for the bathrooms, which were cramped, windowless and faced away from the water.
"Our mission was to introduce light to the bathrooms, and where possible, invite the immensity of the Pacific Ocean into these spaces," Robinson says.
In the master suite, a wall that separated the bedroom from the bathroom was removed and replaced with floor-to-ceiling glass panels, with a sandblasted section for privacy. The rear wall of the bathroom was mirrored to reflect the water and waves. The mirrored wall is interrupted only by the thin profile of a custom-designed CaesarStone vanity.
To further the visual connection with the sea, sanded beach-glass wall tiles in varying depths were specified. The sheen of the tiles helps reflect the natural light.
Large Crema Marfil limestone floor tiles echo the sand colour of the glass wall tiles, reinforcing the beach look. The link with nature is also enhanced by a rain showerhead.
Robinson specified a Kohler Escale bath tub, which complements the contemporary architecture and helps retain the open feel of the space.
"The freestanding tub, curbless shower and flush detailing combine to create a sense of fluidity within the room."
Robinson says the guest bathroom in the condominium was given a similar design treatment, with full-height glass walls to maximise the natural light.
Contemporary fixtures enhance the modern architecture of this new condominium bathroom. The mirrored wall reflects the ocean view through the bedroom.
