Seaside lifestyle from New Home Trends volume 2509
A show home in a development has to be well designed to demonstrate what can be achieved in the area, and built to an equally high standard to establish the tone for the rest of the subdivision.
Nelson company Contemporary Homes was asked to design and build a modern show home for Kiwi Internet Marketing that did exactly this.
Director Paul Richards says to maximise the location, he designed a long, flat building site on the steeply contoured terrain, orienting the house so it runs north to south, with glazing on the east and west sides.
"The house is designed to capture as much morning and afternoon sun as possible, creating bright, sunny spaces through the home," he says.
To control heat loss, Contemporary Homes used a computer-generated model. This establishes required insulation and heating levels to ensure the house is warm and comfortable all year round.
For the interior, the company selected products and finishes to create a welcoming ambience that would appeal to a broad range of people.

Contemporary Homes designed and built the Pebble Bay show home to make the most of the steep site. Cedar was selected for the external cladding to blend into the country environment. The interior is designed to ensure visitors quickly feel comfortable and at home. Because of the nature of the development, all fittings and finishes chosen are of a high standard.
