Heritage build from New Home Trends volume 2406
Even the most urban of homes can take their cue from the colours and textures of nature. This show home is surrounded by a boundary wall of rugged volcanic stone, so it made sense for the interior design team from Design Studio to pick up the stone's browns and greys.
Neutral tones were important for another reason. The builder, Group Masonry, wanted an upmarket show home that would appeal to executive couples, says Design Studio's manager Sandi O'Neill.
"We needed to select neutral colours and finishes that would appeal to different tastes, but still have a dramatic presence," she says.
The designer, Suyin, selected colours and materials for the home, mixing opulent touches, such as a bronze-finish chandelier in the dining area, with clean-lined features such as the custom oak kitchen.
The kitchen is packed with contemporary features. These include a pair of square sinks, a stainless steel rangehood with integrated racking and square-edged Corian countertops. These sit alongside more traditional elements, such as American oak cabinetry with a natural finish, and an oiled chopping board set into the island.
"We wanted to achieve a simple but interesting kitchen that wouldn't date easily," says O'Neill.
"We used 20-20 Design Technology for this project. The software generates full-colour, realistic images of the completed design so clients can visualise the project before work begins."
Design Studio provides interior design services for residential and commercial clients. These include kitchen, bathroom and laundry design, colour and design specifications, and product and material sourcing. The team works on old and new homes, and within any budget.

Contemporary and traditional elements are blended in the oak kitchen of this Group Masonry Home. Design Studio, a division of the Laminex Group, carried out the interior design, specifying the colours and materials for the carpets, walls and floor tiles, and custom-designing the kitchen. The Laminex Group supplied the cabinetry, benchtops and toekick.
A neutral colour palette of stone and brown provides a serene backdrop, and complements the volcanic stone surrounding it.
The home's volcanic stone boundary wall provided inspiration for the interior colour palette. Design Studio specified a neutral colour for the exterior cladding of the solid masonry home.
