From sunrise to sunset
From sunrise to sunset from Outdoor Living & Holiday Home Trends volume 2403
As most of the exterior walls of the house feature floor-to-ceiling double glazing, designer Gary Todd specified architectural joinery rather than a standard residential system, within traditional walls.
Fairview powdercoated aluminium joinery in Silver Pearl was supplied by Ellisons Aluminium. The fabricator manufactured the joinery from aluminium provided by ASL (Aluminium Systems Ltd), a company that specialises in the design and extrusion of such products.
Todd says the joinery incorporates smart technology, which is a technical response to the frequently harsh environment. The doors and windows are all double glazed, with argon gas providing thermal insulation between the glass panels. Solar glass, which is green tinted, also helps regulate the temperature inside the house.
As well as designing its own aluminium profiles, ASL cuts its own dies and extrudes its aluminium on a contract basis. Products are distributed to fabricators under ASL's major aluminium joinery brands – Fairview and Elite. ASL also owns and operates its own powdercoating plant.

The sunrise floods the house with early light. The joinery, which consists of large sliding doors as well as extensive glass areas, features aluminium extruded by ASL and fabricated by Ellisons Aluminium. Solar glass and double glazing with argon gas help ensure the joinery fits the brief for a highly energy-efficient house.
