A perfect smile from Commercial Design Trends volume 2804

In the past, a trip to the dentist was often a rather daunting prospect – particularly for young children. But times are changing, and the new face of dentistry is best expressed in this new clinic specifically designed for young people. It combines a peaceful and playful aesthetic with high-tech laser dentistry, orthodontics and a no-tears experience.
Walking into LaserKids Dental a child could be forgiven for forgetting the point of his or her visit. The light, colourful lounge welcomes young patients as guests. You are greeted by a ‘concierge' and the innovative and fun interactive education room is a new experience. Everything about LaserKids Dental – an extension of the Laser LifeCare Institute – is intended to put you and your child at ease.
Designer Siavash Momeny of Gaze Commercial created the clinic's contemporary, playful design.
"The front areas combine translucent materials and soft tones to create a welcoming aesthetic and give the modest-sized areas a spacious appeal. A bowed mesh divider allows the concierge to keep an eye on children in the education room, while its fins screen out oblique views from the entrance."
The two dental suites to the rear of the premises have a more pared back, technical aesthetic. However, even here splashes of colour are designed to appeal to the young patients.
This institute's approach to dentistry is as forward-looking as the design. It is the brainchild of founder Dr Hisham Abdalla.
"Our approach is holistic and preventative – rather than waiting to fight disease later. We believe that for our guests to achieve a high level of health and vitality it is important to take an early, rounded approach," says Abdalla. "LaserKids looks to the source of dental health issues to ensure they're solved for the future – we call this health risk analysis and management.
"LaserKids Dental offers comprehensive general dentistry and oral hygiene services for children and teenagers, with a focus on early intervention orthodontics. This includes myofunctional therapy and dento-facial orthopaedics – to help children's jaws develop properly, their faces to look beautiful and teeth to grow straight – so they enjoy confident smiles for life."
Using precision laser dentistry together with advanced twinkle sedation and interactive oral health education, LaserKids Dental gives children the tools they need to prevent tooth decay, gum disease, tooth extractions and extended fixed braces through their teenage years. The institute provides modern, non-extraction orthodontic therapy for teenagers as well.
Dr Hisham and Dr Alfonso Vargas were the dentists who conceived the prevention-is-better-than-cure, child-friendly clinic in 2011 to provide a complete oral health experience for young New Zealanders.
"Our therapy is painless. We use non-invasive lasers and offer sedation dentistry to overcome any anxieties that children may have – eliminating the fear of going to the dentist. We deliver a long-term relationship of care and can now see your child from birth to teenage years, before they graduate to the Laser LifeCare Institute as an adult."
Combining restful, light-filled surroundings with progressive dental techniques signals a completely new approach to dental therapy and hygiene.
